4-Ingredient Taco Tofu


Taco tofu is the simplest way to make a flavorful, spicy protein that goes well in taco shells, in burrito bowls, or over a salad. It doesn’t require that you go to the store and get a special meat substitute and I always have the ingredients I need on hand to make this easy protein option.


I like to keep a batch of this in our fridge at all times. It’s no sofritas, but it’s simply delicious and you can doctor it up any way you like. I’ve added sautéed diced bell peppers, tomatoes, and jalapeños in the past and it always turns out great!



  • 1 14oz package extra firm organic tofu

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

  • 4 teaspoons Simply Organic spicy taco seasoning (or taco seasoning of your choice)

  • 1/2 teaspoon Simply Organic garlic salt (or garlic salt of your choice)


  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a fry pan on medium heat. Cut open the package of tofu and press between two large plates to squeeze out excess liquid. Place the tofu into the fry pan and use smasher to break up the tofu into a crumble-like texture.

  2. Evenly sprinkle the spicy taco seasoning and garlic salt over the tofu and mix well to combine. Continue to cook the tofu on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or longer if you want the tofu to dry out more.

  3. Remove the pan from heat and serve in a taco, burrito, or over a salad!
